I just noticed you're in Canada... your serial number is higher than the US 1977 range and it looks like Canada got the 1T9 in 1978. So probably a 1978? I doubt the lighting coil would work as you probably have points ignition on the donor bike... Not sure on the Canadian models though. Swapping the...

Early 1980's is my guess. Serial number will tell you exactly.

DE1615 is what I've used on early bikes with painted covers.

DE1650 looks great too... some use it.

I think the 1615 looks a little more "original" than the 1650? [dunno]

Going by an old Yamaha bulletin, technically the silver paint code "35" for the RT2 is the same for: Gas Tank Oil Tank Headlight Miscellaneous (fenders, small parts, etc.) It does not surprise me that the finish is better on the NOS tank than the NOS ears...
